"I knew nothing, and I persisted in the faith that the time of cruel miracles was not past." — Stanislaw Lem, Solaris |
Monday, November 15th, 2004 Things are still tight at work, so here are some more things that I did, rather than things I have done. Did do, not done now, that is. %?) This is a concept that I first encountered on Clifford Pickover's website. At the time I made this image, the idea of harmful code actually lurking in an image file was ludicrous; this was years before a trojan was sucessfully concealed in a JPEG file. Scary now... This image is utterly harmless and inert at the computer code level. It has no power to make your computer replicate it. However, if you like the image, accept its advice, and place it on your own website, it will have managed to replicate itself nonetheless! So, feel free to copy it to your own website. If you want a smaller version, just visit www.jja.org. I've lost track of Pickover's version over time, and I can't locate my own very well over Google, so I have no idea whose virus is more successful in the wild... The illustrated critter is based on a real virus called the T4 Bacteriophage, and my depiction is essentially accurate save for the little red eyes. Think of tiny grim lunar landers settling on bacteria, injecting their DNA, and filling each bacterium with copies of the T4 until it bursts apart... That's scary. To the right is an interesting floret I discovered in Illustrator while applying some filters to a seven sided star... And to the left is a parody of Tux the Linux mascot, made for a friend who is simultaneously a Linux maven and Hello Kitty fan... I'm hoping things will slow down at work a tad ere long, (not too much, of course) so I can get back on course with Bune... Content trumps all, of course. Until! |
